Views from a Plane - Sky Sketches
The poem inspired by these views:
Sky Sketches
Golden streaked
Blood red stream
Above shades
Of gray clouds
Topped with blue
Attitude

Video taken and poem written on my flight home from Seattle:
Cloud Streams
Clouds flow around
Roll over and
Surround the plane As streams of mist Streak through grayed sky © Alice Vedral Rivera 2010 - video & poem
On my way home from Seattle:
Ascending
Cleared for take off
Sitting on the
Tarmac – rain drops
Roll down plastic
Window pane
Engines rev up
Jet speeds down the
Damp runway - lifts
Into murky
Cloud gray soup

This poem was inspired by the view from the plane that I took the following pictures of:
Earth Sketches
Small puddles, lake spots
Squiggles of rivers
Wet water doodles
Drawn on a canvass
Of non-descript ground

This is the 2nd poem from my recent flight to Seattle added to the ‘Views from a Plane’ series.
In Transit
Rejuvenating
In ‘kid central’
Amid curious
Chatter of children
And boisterous baby
Babble – bursts of
Spontaneous
Concentrated
Energy in
Forced confinement
For four joyful hours
Admiring the sky

Take Off
Full flight waddles from
The gate – ungainly
As it maneuvers
Into queue of planes
Alternately landing
Taking off in a
Carefully choreographed
Sequence of timing
Gathers speed, power
Ascends into
Light gray cloud mist
Graceful in the
Air as it breaks
Through to clear blue

This is the last poem in the series so far. Written on the flight home from the Czech Republic in 2009. My next set of Views from a Plane poems will be written in November this year when I fly to Seattle.
Spatial Interlude
In the interlude
Between earth and sky
We fly higher than
Birds with outstretched wings
In a shaky tin can
Nothing but pockets
Of air to cushion
Us on our way home
Into the waiting
Arms of those we love

Airport Shuffle
Scarlet and gray
Tinged with violet
Was the sky when
We landed in
Amsterdam
One half hour early
No gate - we wait
For the sky to
Add more blue to
The palette then
Disembark to
Wait almost three
Hours more for
Our flight to Prague

Night Moves
Night in her
Sequined gown
Parties til
The sun wakes
And slowly
Pushes her
Off the vast
Dance floor of
The sky with
His brightness
She waits for
His light to
Dim and wane
Enough to
Show off her
Steps again
For all who
Dare to be
Foot loose - move
Unconstrained
Wild and free

Melancholy Flight
Through my headphones
the flute weaves in
and around with
notes the other
instruments can
only underscore
Its story is
melancholy
matching my mood
on this first night
of limited
contact with you
